Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it

With the present day advances in the investigatory modalities like U S scan, C T scan, M R I, etc, and with the advances in biomedical engineering, we tend to forget how surgeons used to operate in adverse circumstances, adapting to the meager existing facilities then. This prompted me to share my experience today, citing the available facilities then.

From Adversity to Achievement – The Making of a Surgeon

Dr. CGN’s path to medicine was anything but easy. At just 18, he lost his father and found himself battling financial hardship during his MBBS at Mysore Medical College. Belonging to a community not eligible for government scholarships, he relied on limited aid and the kindness of a professor who granted him fee-free studentship.

He swam against the current for five and a half years — not just to graduate, but to excel.
After completing his MBBS in 1963, he served at Victoria Hospital and later Neyveli Lignite Corporation in Tamil Nadu, managing over 100 patients a day with calm confidence.
